7-Day Kenya Safari Itinerary

Day 1–2: Amboseli’s Giant Sentinels

Your 7-Day Kenya Safari begins with a scenic drive south from Nairobi to Amboseli National Park. Known as the “Home of the African Elephant,” Amboseli offers a landscape dominated by the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro.

On your first afternoon, the dust clouds raised by hundreds of elephants create a ghostly, beautiful atmosphere.

By Day 2, you’ll explore the Enkongo Narok swamp, where hippos wallow and buffalo graze in the emerald-green waters. The contrast between the dry, salt-pan plains and the lush wetlands makes for incredible photography.
Day 3: Through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru

Leaving the giants behind, your safari moves toward the Great Rift Valley. The drive itself is an event, featuring a stop at the Rift Valley Viewpoint, where the earth seems to drop away into a vast, prehistoric expanse.

Arriving at Lake Nakuru National Park in the afternoon, you’ll notice a shift in scenery. The park is a haven for birdlife and one of the best places in Kenya to spot both Black and White Rhinos. The sight of a prehistoric rhino moving through the yellow-fever acacia forests is truly unforgettable.
Day 4: The Journey to the Legendary Masai Mara

After an early morning game drive in Nakuru, you’ll head toward the “crown jewel” of your safari: the Masai Mara National Reserve. As you drive through Narok town, the landscape opens into the vast, rolling grasslands that have featured in countless nature documentaries. You’ll arrive at your camp or lodge in time for an evening game drive, often the best time to see the big cats beginning their nocturnal hunts.
Day 5–6: Immersive Wildlife in the Mara
The next two days are the heart of your safari. The Masai Mara is world-renowned for its high concentration of predators.

Predator Action: Keep your eyes peeled for “The Five Musketeers” (a famous cheetah coalition) or pride of lions lounging on granite kopjes.

The Mara River: Visit the site of the Great Migration crossings. Even outside of the migration months (July–October), the river is a hub of activity with massive crocodiles and territorial hippos.

Optional Balloon Safari: For a truly unforgettable perspective, consider a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the plains, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush.
Day 7: Farewell to the Savannah

On the final day of your safari, enjoy a “bonus” early morning game drive. The air is crisp, and the predators are often still active before the heat of the day sets in. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll begin the drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon with a camera full of photos and a soul full of memories.
